Tell me what happened that made you walk out on having Character and Integrity.

I know what really happened, and I hoped others would figure it out.

Thornton Terrace is over run with Covid between patients and staff. Wear your mask, wash your hands or just stay away.

Courtney has the dubious distinction of having more good people leave or be squeezed out than probably any administration in Madison's history. Certainly in the last 30 years. People sense a sinking ship and a narcissist who can't or won't change course. You simply hide the figures and hope for a miracle to right the ship that of course only your genius can correct. Who wants to be part of that?

It's no secret the cost of vets for your pet is as much as doctors for humans. It's gotten ridiculous. A annual flea treatment and annual shots will cost you several hundreds of dollars. A doctor visit with blood draw and several tests cost me in total $145 with no insurance involved. It's also no secret that for pennies, yes pennies you can safely and humanely euthanize a dog with properly administered and dosed Diphenhydramine HCl. That's common Benadryl tabs for those that don't know. 3mg per pound. Sleep, coma, and then death in an hour, or just stop whining about costs and pony up.

When you say "Dan Dattillo had concerns but went along with the spending." That is the issue Dan is going to have to fight all year with voting Madisonians. In my opinion, that is asking for your cake and eat it too.
It's no different then all those Dems in Congress who voted to go to War to defeat Iraq over weapons of mass destruction. At the end of the day, you still voted for it. If you thought something wasn't right then why did you ultimately support it?

Not since Huntington's end of the year, last minute squeeze to hide an unethical purchase of swamp property years ago have we had a mayor attempt to disguise overspending. Huntington's folly was for the "shovel ready" swamp land which still sits empty but Courtney's request will be to borrow 2 million more on a pool project that has already exceeded the budget millions over. We are now well beyond 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 million to the now 8 million for "renovating" something that should have been built new on the hilltop where it can best serve the majority of families. No one really cares that Bob likes the downtown pool because "that's where he took swimming lessons." Nor does anyone believe its a tourist attraction especially since admissions don't cover operating costs. But, whats best for the community didn't matter to Bob & for that matter many on council. I've no idea who will vote which way. But I do know several council are deeply concerned about Bob's addiction to overspending including the latest pool fiasco. Whether they say so tonight - we will have to wait and see.

BACKGROUND INFO: Courtney sent an email to council members where he made it clear that he didn't want to stand alone on asking to borrow 2 million more for the pool. He expected council to reach out to him if they disagreed so that they could come to an understanding (do what Bob wants) and not have any public disagreement about whether the overspending was a good idea or not. He referred to his plan as "tax neutral" which was his way of saying it wont "raise" taxes but what Bob isn't saying is that his plan will absolutely cost citizens more in taxes. I dont think he is going to confess that since he plans on borrowing 2 million more on top of what he already has borrowed that taxpayers will be on the hook for a many more dollars over a longer period of time. Sort of what loan sharks tell you- dont worry about paying more- just pay me forever.

So NO ITS NOT TAX NEUTRAL but it is an election year & overspending is likely to be an issue as much as irresponsible spending. Datillo has often expressed concern about both, even if he has gone along with most proposals. We will have to see if he votes with Courtney's guaranteed three yes votes or not. But Bob desperately wants a unified front on this one because he doesn't want to be out on a split vote limb.

Here are some common facts:
Its never too late to not waste money.
Doing whats right sometimes means we have to stop doing things the wrong way.
We shouldn't be dogs chasing our own tail: Just because we already spent money on a bad decision doesn't mean we have to make another bad decision and keep keep spending it on the same bad thing we shouldn't have spent it on in the first place.
Finally- its a lie to say this proposal is tax neutral. It will spend more tax dollars - not save them. tjh

The past shelter director who fell under fire for allowing pet abuse and neglecting animals has finally and officially resigned. Her falsified resume and history of drug theft among other serious issues is irrelevant to shelter operations at this time.

Sadly & despite Vet Joy Barrons reassurance that she had organized local vets for an advisory board, that promise has proven false and no veterinarians are meeting to guide shelter operations. There is a current agreement between the county, city and Town of Hanover for a shelter advisory board. That board has not been meeting because Baron assured commissioners she had an alternative. In addition Baron pulled her license endorsement for the shelter to be able to provide humane euthanizing services for badly injured and ill pets. Consequently pets brought into the shelter that have been run over, shot, mauled or dying from disease or illness must suffer until a local vet can be paid to euthanize on his or her time schedule. So guess how many pets suffered needlessly while Baron refused to come in on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the Day after?

The commissioners will need to contract with a licensed vet to provide drugs in order to assure humane care. Other issues- there is a move by Barron and a few local vets to try to recapture a monopoly on high cost spay neuter services for shelter animals. They have already captured 100% of costly euthanizing by refusing to support Humane care for injured and ill pets and hope to capture all spay neuters. Tjh

Detectives from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post are investigating a shooting that occurred this morning in Jefferson County, Indiana that resulted in the death of a Madison, Indiana man.

The incident occurred around 10:30 am when the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department received reports of a shooting in the parking lot of a business on County Road 400 North just west of US 421. When initial officers arrived, they located an adult male, later identified as Justin L. Hall, age 34, Madison, Indiana, deceased in the parking lot. Two other adult males involved in the incident were still at the scene and were immediately detained. They were later identified as Christian M. Kennedy, age 21, Hanover, Indiana and Matthew P. Redd, age 36, Madison, Indiana.

Initial information gathered by investigators indicated that all three individuals arrived in the parking lot in vehicles just prior to the shooting. The three men became involved in an altercation outside of the business which led to Hall being shot and killed.

Investigators don’t believe the incident was specifically related to Madison Precision, the business where the incident occurred. They further believe the incident wasn’t random and there is no danger to the public.

Both Christian Kennedy and Matthew Redd have been arrested on preliminary charges of Murder. Formal charges will be forthcoming from the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office. Once formal charges are filed, Kennedy and Redd will both face initial appearances in the Jefferson County Circuit Court.
