Jeff, I know you join the majority of the public in remaining frustrated with the shelter board & commissioners, especially Little. You are right, it was too long & too hard of a fight to end up celebrating as if everything is okay now. Most are extremely angry & the calls still come to the society complaining about the shelter. But, Trish Parker is an excellent choice for director. She was a humane society choice long ago. But, would not even. consider the position after the past director was terminated. If it helps you feel better, we never mentioned her name for fear Baron, Hannah and Little would fight against her simply because the society endorsed her. The bottom line is there will be a new ILA to operate the shelter but it will not have a shelter board that will shield the commissioners. Veterinarians will be engaging- (at least for a while) and their pressure for funding will help keep things moving in a positive direction unless that push becomes financially self serving as it did for Baron. A new shelter is in the works- it has been for some time but things are creeping along at the usual government speed. As far as accountability- Hannah still has a job, Joy still cries when she’s been caught lying and Little is still commissioner. But- Hannah has lost her podium from which to scream, Little has said he won’t run again for commissioner- maybe the truth- maybe not, and Joy has to work extra hard to keep vets in line and has ton of work to dig out from under the damage she has done to her reputation covering up the abuse and neglect of shelter pets. The big issue is the need for a county wide spay neuter push after years of both city and county dumping cats into the county and area farms. We have a serious overpopulation problem and dangerous feral cat issue. The society provides a low income program, but both the city and county need to FUND spay neuter programs. When too many adoptable animals outstrip possible owners we either need to invest millions in sheltering or euthanize. So the public needs to influence officials to implement spay neuter programs as a way to immediately reduce pet population in a humane manner.

Madison pays higher prices for many consumer goods, not just gas. The markets have been monopolized and this is a tOuRiSt destination, you're not supposed to make a home here.

The increase in salaries have always been lopsided within the city. Years ago Huntington believed he should be paid similar to other cities the size of Madison so gave himself a big raise. Others department heads complained, but not much changed.

Looking back to 2012, Welch made 59,090. Last year Courtney made 68,643. Thats roughly a 16 percent increase in pay. I’m sure he will make more this year. The biggest increase was the police chief. In 2012 Thurston made 57,849. Last year Wallace made 74,909. Thats almost 29 percent increase. There is no secret the police department was given a big salary bump, so I’m sure other departments want theirs to be the same too.

The biggest part of the city budget is salaries. Looks like we need to makes some changes there first. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Maybe pay JB has consultant for the city and public information officer. He’ll work for a sugar free pie and 1/2 off McDonalds in the morning.

No surprise that the Madison Courier did a horrible one sided job covering councilman Thevenow’s motion to lower salary maximums and give the council more say over the city’s massive payroll increases. Of course the mayor and Mindy were against it - how else could he give her $8000 mid year raises!! Campbell took the time to give Courtney a separate interview on the subject but didn’t seem to bother giving Thevenow time to share his side.

Finally! Finally, my azz. How many helpless creatures have had to suffer and die to get the attention needed to maybe see that they may "just have one more day".

It ain't over until you get self-serving people like little and some of those who were on the shelter board and the other commissioners, who neglected to do their job we paid them to do thrown off the bridge(:).

Yes, we've come a long way, fighting tooth and nail all the way for some sanity, but the journey does not end here.

Congratulations to Commissioner Bramer and Lee and Shelter Board President Ray Denning and Humane Society President Warren Auxier on a job well done. Auxier has been working for at least 3 years to resolve minimal funding, abuse and neglect and a multitude of other issues at the shelter under the past director and recent director Lindsay Stulz. Stulz is now on extended family leave for the next 12 weeks. A new director has been appointed. For the sake of saving face- we will call the new director the interim director. You will be pleased to know that a Humane Society endorsed, qualified, experienced person has been appointed. You may or may not know Trish- but I am sure you will appreciate the changes she brings the shelter. Trish left under the past director after efforts by her and the society were unable to stop the abuse and neglect at that time. The good news is the shelter board members and commissioners join the society in approving Trish, so all are onboard with this appointment.

Just like Biden robbed the strategic oil reserves to temporarily bring down gas prices, Courtney robbed the Rainy day fund to cover his outrageous spending. Currently $30 grand in the hole. Just gotta hope we don't have a rainy day. When the next tax draw comes the general fund could very well still be in the red. Why do you think he is the first mayor in recent memory to hire an outside financial firm when Bob was supposed to be the smartest guy in the room? You really got snowed Madison. Serious problems will be revealed soon as Bobby and crew continue to scramble. October 14, 2022 0 0 24.15.187.142

Just a big thank you to Jeff for posting all the info on the animal shelter because without the public outcry everything would still be going on. And to Warren Auxier and Tammi for always fighting even when others deny the truth and pick on them. Hannah has really shown the kind of horrible person she is. At least without a podium to scream from we wont have to listen to her chalkboard voice as she insults everyone who doesnt agree with her.
